Are You Too Young For Hair Transplant?

February 15th, 2009 by admin

For many people, the idea of a hair transplant is not as uncomfortable as it might have been some years ago as many improvements have been taken to improve the technique. A benefit of current procedures is that you can not always tell when someone has undergone one because their bad hair plugs are not obvious. The process is still not widely understood however and only a few facts are known to people.

Hair Transplant

For a full fifty percent of all American men, hair loss is a problem. One alternative men decide to try to deal with their hair loss is the option of shaving their heads entirely. Other men decide instead to undergo hair transplant surgery. It is true that some men simply accept their hair loss but these men are completely out of sync with the rest of the world.

You should be certain of one thing before you begin a surgical procedure: they are permanent. For the individual that is planning one of these treatments, they should understand that they will change the look of their head forever and they will also require many surgical treatments to get the desired look. Thus, once a person gets one hair graft, they are committed to the hair transplant so you should never agree to any doctor’s proposal that promises to “let you see how you like it”.

Following hair transplant surgery, you’ll need plenty of rest, contrary to what many people think following the easy procedure. A person might shrug off the need to rest because it is “just their scalp,” and not muscle and bone. Truthfully, you’ll have many post-surgery wounds afterward which will need to be protected.

Every patient considering hair transplant surgery should be aware that it is a procedure that will take a long time to complete - up to one or two years. There are mega-sessions where thousands of grafts are done in one sitting to help reduce that amount of overall time. The commitment required for these sessions is grueling in and of itself, often requiring a serious amount of time to be performed.

Normal treatment is not always available to everyone and some people do not have enough hair to undergo hair transplant surgery. There are other surgeries that can be done at the same time to achieve similar results. Most patients agree that these additional procedures are the cause of additional pain.

What you may not realize - and your doctor may not tell you - is that your grafts may not survive after hair transplant surgery. Hopefully, only a few will be lost and this will still make the result a desirable one. The reality is that often grafts do not survive despite all the effort involved.

Hair transplant treatments are not as expensive as you might think. If the average person has the procedure done at 30 and dies at 70, then they will have spent 25 dollars per month, or 300 dollars per year on the treatment. Many of the supposedly low cost treatments for hair loss cost much more than 25 dollars per month. You would actually save by getting the surgery done in the first place.
