Consumers for Affordable Health Care

May 15th, 2008 by admin

Many people in the USA are looking for more affordable health care owing to the continued increase in premiums. Some employers for hardworking employees have had to cut back on some of the health care for everyone because of the rising costs and working with a budget. My work health care plan was, until the latter part of 2006, great but now the benefits it supplied have been reduced. It was quite sudden although my employer said he had been looking into changing our health car company because our current one was just too costly.

The excuse was that they were trying to ensure the new package would help everyone in the company. I am told that the new insurance package is still very good and I am lucky to have it. I don not mind other workers benefiting but it costs me more now, almost twice as much more to have my family covered in the plan. Ok, so many other people benefit, including my company, but my paycheck is considerably lighter now that the premium has doubled to keep my family on the policy.

I liked the previous company and so far I am not as impressed with the new one although the health care plan does not seem that bad. As far as I and some of my co-workers are concerned, the only real person to benefit form this new *affordable* health care arrangement is my company. You see, my previous plan paid my entire hospital bill just over 3 years ago when I had my little boy. Compare this to the new health care plan and I would be out of pocket by over 4,000 dollars.

However, that amount is just for the hospital and delivery because I would also have other expenses and that just doesn’t seem fair to the majority that are involved. Affordable health care options are becoming more widely available because there is a desperate need for them. Those less fortunate can now get free health care more readily and workers without health care are able to join special schemes. Whilst I appreciate these programs because they are saving lives and helping people to grow stronger and healthier, some people take advantage of them.

I feel sorry for those in genuine need of affordable health care who must look around and see others who are just sponges on the system: a financial burden to the state. Although I say they can be a burden to the state, I really mean a burden to its citizens because it is the tax payer who foots the bill. Financially speaking, my company saw the real advantage to this switch and some of the employees. Having a reduced income seems to be the result of these work changes with only the company truly benefiting. Providing health care which is affordable for Americans needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later.
